Today's Premium Ingredients International (UK) Ltd was created in 1980 as a new division of the Amalgamated Metal Corporation PLC (AMC), a multinational metal trading company with a history dating back over 60 years.
The business was initially formed to capitalise on the increasing sourcing opportunities in China as AMC was selling metals into this country and was looking to establish a counter trade business.
The initial brief was wide ranging but within a few years several opportunities presented themselves in the food ingredients arena which set the company firmly on the path of supplying food acids and vitamins into the European market.
During the late 1980's, as the turnover grew to $30 million, the division was renamed AMC Chemicals and in 1990 an office was opened in New Jersey to service the USA market.
During this period the company entered the essential oil and aroma chemical markets which expanded the product range.
The turnover continued to grow, reaching $70 million by 2000 and further organic growth occurred when it entered into the Amino Acid business, enhancing the product ranges offered.
AMC Chemicals was sold by the parent company in December 2002 and acquired by Premium Ingredients International based in Chicago.
As a result AMC Chemicals (UK) Ltd was set up as a separate company in Dec 2002. The company was renamed Premium Ingredients International (UK) Ltd in July 2006, during which year the combined group turnover was approx $230 million.
The company is now focussing on being a global supplier of ingredients to the food, flavour, nutrition and fragrance markets.
In response to consumer demands, the group is concentrating on maintaining the highest standards of quality and is starting to add value to the ingredients we supply by providing a variety of blending services to our customers.
